What is the Feedback and Sharing group?

The group consists of supportive people (professional and emerging writers, who connect fortnightly to assist each other with the various stages of their writing projects.

What style’s of writing are appropriate?

Really anything. We have poets, playwrights, novelists, as well as those who share personal essays, journal/blog entries. Any writing you are looking for feedback on is acceptable.

Do I need to sign up to attend?

You can register your attendance through the meetup website, or just show up to the Belconnen Library. There are no expectations for you being there or missing a meeting. Come along and check out the group whenever you have time to listen and help, or read something you would like to share.

Can I get feedback on something I’ve written?

Yes, most writers come along for feedback. We limit the readings to (up to) 1000 words per meeting.

How are the meeting run?

At the start of each meeting, we go-around the table and introduce ourselves. Writers will give their first name, maybe talk about the type of writing you create, and what you have been working on lately. Lastly, mention whether you have something to share, and the length of the piece.

Before reading your piece, we ask that if the material could be triggering in any way, that a warning is suggested before reading, so that anyone who wishes, may step out.

Consider the type of feedback you might like, who your intended audience is as it will help the group to assist you.

If you’d prefer to not be the one reading your work aloud, you can ask another member if they would mind reading it for you.

What do I need to bring?

Primarily, a good attitude. Be kind and honest, be open to feedback. Bring an intention to listen, and to help others.

An excerpt or short piece (under 1000 words) to share. If you would like the group to read along, then print outs, or shared documents links, can help with getting the feedback you desire.

The group works best when we are generous with our own time, offering constructive feedback, listening attentively, even if you may not have anything to share that week – Good luck on your writing journey.
